The Human Resources Specialist will be responsible for championing the culture of our organization by making sure our Talent Management initiatives are on point as well as having their pulse on the always shifting world of HR Compliance. In a nutshell, the HR Specialist will be our champion of the people!

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Act as a business partner to the management team and provide shared service support to Bookbyte and its sister company SellerActive in all things related to HR.

  • Be the organization’s subject matter expert regarding our HR programs, policies, procedures, and talent management strategies.

  • Administer the organizations Payroll; process bi-monthly payroll cycles, respond to ad hoc payroll issues and provide payroll support to the management teams as needed.

  • Respond to ad hoc miscellaneous HR administrative tickets within the organization’s shared service platform.

  • Coordinate recruitment; pre-offer, post-offer and employee onboarding/processing of new hires.

  • Administers employee benefits programs as well as leave of absence and worker’s compensation.

  • Assists the HR manager in strategic Initiatives by providing research, analysis and integrating data to provide information for human resources programs.

  • May handle sensitive employee relation issues.

  • General office administrative duties as needed.

  • The ability to travel to and from our Salem and Portland office.

Experience and Skills:

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources or a related field or 2 years of entry-level HR experience such as an HR Assistant or HR Coordinator.

  • HR Certification through SHRM (CP) or HRCI (PHR) is preferred

  • Intermediate understanding of general HR Best Practices.

  • Familiarity with State/Federal Employment Laws

  • Experience with FMLA/OFLA

  • Advocate for Employee Engagement

  • A high degree of Emotional Intelligence

  • Ability to gather data thoroughly and maintain a high level of accuracy.

  • Passionate, self-motivated, with a strong drive to achieve business objectives.

  • The ability to work independently and own their field of expertise as a subject matter expert.

  • Excellent communication skills - speaks and writes clearly and concisely

  • Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills

  • Loves to collaborate and foster a thriving organizational culture.

  • Experience with data visualization software a plus.

  • Professional working experience with MS Office Suite

  • Experience with PowerPoint and ability to prepare professional presentations strongly preferred.

  • Ability to prepare reports and business correspondence.

  • Ability to explain complex rules and regulations.

  • Maintains confidentially within the department.
