Job Description:

Summary

Bookbyte is seeking an experienced and innovative leader to join our accounting team. Working in partnership with the Corporate Controller, this position will be responsible for supervising Bookbyte’s accounting team to; develop and maintain accounting policies, principles and procedures aimed at ensuring accurate and timely preparation of financial statements across multiple organizations.

The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of inventory cost accounting, a solid understanding of GAAP, and demonstrated experience leading accounting teams. Special consideration will be given to candidates who have accounting experience working for an e-commerce organization or the textbook industry.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Obtain and maintain a thorough understanding of the financial reporting and general ledger structure for our companies.
  • Ensure an accurate and timely monthly close process including timely review of journal entries and account reconciliations.
  • Ensure the timely reporting and analysis of all monthly financial information.
  • Ensure the quarterly Bank Compliance reporting is performed in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Support budget and forecasting activities.
  • Monitor and analyze accounting department work to develop more efficient procedures and use of resources while maintaining a high level of accuracy.
  • Supervise members of the accounting team; work with each direct report to establish goals and objectives for each year and monitor and advise on the progress to enhance the professional development of staff. Provide training to new and existing staff as needed. Handle personnel issues.
  • Advise staff regarding the handling of non-routine reporting transactions.
  • Respond to inquiries from senior management regarding financial results and special reporting requests.
  • Collaborate with the other department managers to support overall department goals and objectives.
  • Work with our accounting firm to ensure a clean and timely year-end audit.

Experience and Skills:

Minimum Job Requirements

  • At least seven years of demonstrated accounting experience.
  • A minimum of three years of supervisory experience.
  • Excellent knowledge of GAAP principles, practices and methods. Proven ability to research accounting issues, apply GAAP and propose solutions for implementation.
  • Experience working with inventory systems including knowledge of costing assumptions and working with in transit inventory.
  • Demonstrated knowledge in the preparation of financial reports and supporting schedules including analysis, follow up and resolution of variances.
  • A minimum of two years’ experience working with Accounts Payable.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Business.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required.

  • Proficiency in using a computer running Microsoft Windows. Professional level experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio)
